Reining is a judged event designed to show the athletic ability of a ranch-type horse in the confines of a show arena. Often called the “Dressage” of Western events, the reining horse event is the ultimate blending of horse and rider, combining speed and maneuverability through a series of intricate patterns.
The Southwest Reining Horse Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of the Reining Horse. The association is an affiliate of and adheres to the guidelines of the National Reining Horse Association. Founded in 1984, SWRHA quickly became one of the top affiliates of the NRHA.
The primary mission of the SWRHA is to promote the breeding, training, and exhibition of the Reining Horse. In accomplishing this, we have established the SWRHA Online Stallion Auction program and annually host the Southwest Reining Horse Association Futurity & Show. We also sanction a series of NRHA-approved reinings that comprise the Affiliate Circuit Qualifying Shows. Furthermore, our organization recognizes its own members in their pursuit of reining excellence at the annual SWRHA Party Of Champions.
We encourage you to attend one of our Affiliate shows if you want to compete or if you simply want to learn more about this exciting event. At these shows, you will find many people that are willing to help you get started, answer your questions, or offer assistance. Please feel free to contact any of our board members with questions or suggestions about the Southwest Reining Horse Association.
