Manon Fontaine and golden-boy BHB Wimpys Starlord rode to her best-score-ever Thursday evening at the SWRHA Futurity, marking a 74 to win the first slate of the ancillary Limited Open and earn $291.
The five-year-old gelding sired by BHB Mr Wimpys Royal and out of BHB Katberry Stargun is owned by Fontaine and her mother Valerie.
“I’ve had him since he was born,” Fontaine said. “I rode both the mom and the dad. [BHB Wimpys Starlord] is a golden horse. He is always giving 100%. I don’t ride him for a month and just put the saddle on and go riding. He’s not going to [misbehave]. He is amazing.”
Fontaine came to the U.S. from France about seven months ago, and works for Mathieu Buton. She had a friendly competition in place with Buton’s other assistant to see who would mark higher in ancillary open classes. Needless to say, Fontaine came out on top.
“I want to thank my mom, family, Mathieu for always helping me and all the MB team. And the horse, for sure,” Fontaine said.
