Ruf Nite is making a comeback with Jeffery Mixon at the helm after years of hanging out in the pasture. The pair marked a 73 in the second slate of ancillary competition to win $260 for first in the Intermediate Non Pro.
“My wife got him as a three-year-old and we had some bad luck with some injuries with him, so he’s been out in the pasture for the last four years, just riding kids around and being a horse,” Mixon said. “I didn’t have anything to show, so [riding him] seemed like a good idea at the time. I started legging him up about a month ago.”
The son of Gunners Special Nite (out of Dunit A Lil Ruf) has only had his sliding plates on for two weeks, but went right back to stopping as if he never had a day off.
“I want to thank everybody [by especially] my wife. She takes care of everything and everybody else at the barn chips in. Thanks to my parents for watching Logan and a whole list of people,” Mixon said.
