Morgan Rose Hobson was just cruising aboard Trendsettter, but their score of 71 brought home the win in the Rookie Level 1 at the SWRHA Futurity.
“I just took it slow today. I think my fast circles were as slow as my slow circles. We went slow [today] so we can go fast tomorrow and actually try to score something,” Hobson said. “He’s a very good horse. We spent the year taking it slow so I can prepare for derbies, and he’s just been phenomenal. He showed in the open level 4 and has been able to come into the rookie classes and mark 74s and have fun.”
Trendsettter’s curious personality and capacity to swap from the open to the rookie is not lost on Hobson, who praises the gelding for his versatility.
“He’s just goofy. He’ll eat anything he can get his little mouth on and when you ride him, he’s always willing to do whatever you want to do. And I like that he’ll eat anything. Like today, he had a sugar cookie from Wal-Mart,” Hobson said.
Sired by Spooks Gotta Whiz and out of Timed To Shine, Trendsettter and Hobson are becoming a more solid team with every outing.
“I want to thank Casey Deary, Nicole Deary, Josh Tishman, Layton Tishman and the whole Deary family, [plus] my mom and my dad,” Hobson said.
