The annual Southwest Reining Horse Association Futurity and Horse Show seems like a “small” occasion in the grand scheme of things, but it includes premium features like attractive payouts, quality awards, memorable events, prominent parties and innovative programs making it rank among the NRHA’s Top Ten Shows. One of those programs is the SWRHA Stallion Service Auction, held annually in January to increase payouts at the Futurity.
“The SWRHA Stallion Auction was the first stallion service auction in our industry,” explained SWRHA Board Member Kathy McCutcheon who heads the stallion auction. “Former SWRHA President Jack Covington came up with this idea and laid the groundwork for a system that is still used globally to fund and promote NRHA events today.”
Those who donate stallions are treated to benefits like increased promotion and visibility as well as getting their names put in a drawing for a custom golf cart each year at the SWRHA Futurity. In 2021,
donated stallions will get even more recognition with the introduction of the Salute to the Sires Exhibitor Party held on the evening of Thursday, October 21.
The party’s purpose is to show appreciation for those who donated breedings in 2021 and provide yet another venue to publicize their stallions. “Once again, we are so excited to celebrate another SWRHA Futurity! Our 36 years of fabulous prizes and payouts would not be possible without our generous sponsors and stallion auction donations,” McCutcheon said. “This year, we will showcase our donated stallions and their owners at our Salute to the Sires Exhibitor Party. Thank you from everyone at SWRHA!”
Stallion owners are invited to bring their stallions’ advertisements and swag to the party to display and distribute at the party. The crowd is sure to be huge with a delicious meal being served and drinks for all. The Kids’ Halloween Costume Parade will provide seasonal entertainment while attendees catch up with friends.
In addition, two prominent items will take center stage during the party: the Stallion Auction Golf Cart will be drawn for, and the embryo transfer donated by Dr. Chelsea Makloski of Pinnacle Equine Veterinary Services PLLC. will be auctioned.
The complete embryo transfer package will include breeding/cycle (2 attempts), embryo flush (2 attempts) and a recipient mare. The approximate value of the package is over $4,000, depending on donor mare breeding soundness. The procedure will be performed by Dr. Chelsea Makloski at Pinnacle Equine Services, PLLC. in Whitesboro, Texas. This is the fourth year to auction this package. “The SWRHA Board of Directors appreciates the generosity of Pinnacle Equine Services, PLLC. and Chelsea Makloski,” noted McCutcheon.
Set for October 19-24, 2021, the SWRHA Futurity has been held annually at the historic Hardy Murphy Coliseum in Ardmore, Okla., For more information about this great event, visit www.swrha.com/futurity.php.
