Ulisez Fernandez took the reins of veteran reining horse RS Twistin Nic on Friday at the SWRHA Futurity, to not only win the first slate of the Level 2 of both the Ride and Slide Open and Non Pro, but also tie for the win of the Ride and Slide Open Level 1 [1] and finish second in the Ride and Slide Non Pro Level 1 [1] with scores of 71 and 70.
“It was very fun. It was a pretty good run, and this horse is very consistent,” Fernandez shared of RS Twistin Nic, owned by Randy Shepherd. The 15-year-old gelding is by Nic It In The Bud and out of legendary calf-roping mare Twisters Enola Gay. “I thank Judy Shepherd, Yonathan Baruch, and everyone who has helped me.”
Fernandez has been riding reining horses for two years, and now works for Baruch. He’s been showing any time he gets the chance. “I enjoy seeing how the horses improve from the first day you ride them until they show,” he said.
