“Don’t be afraid to get the old horse,” Angela Pennington declared Thursday evening as she and 17-year-old marked a 71 in the first slate of Rookie class.
The score was good enough for the Co-Championship, adding another figurative feather to Pennington’s hat.
“Today I went out there – we’ve been struggling with our left turnaround – so we just went slow and easy today to feel it out. We didn’t go for a lot of speed in our circles, but they were perfect. On our rundowns I am still working on getting him smoother and more correct. Our first one was a little rough but our last two were pretty good,” Pennington said.
The gelding, sired by Wimpys Little Step and out of Starlights Slipper, was originally meant for Pennington’s husband, but after she rode Lil Star Stepper to work on her stops he never got him back. Luckily, there doesn’t seem to be any hard feelings.
“My husband is very supportive, and we have a great barn team at Jared Leclair Performance Horses,” Pennington said.
