Lexi McCutcheon – Disco Ball
The fifth day of the Southwest Reining Horse Association Futurity and Horse Show was a good day for Lexi McCutcheon! On Disco Ball, she scored a 73 to win the Novice Horse Non Pro Levels 3 [2] and 2 [2] , as well as both High Point Buckles! Riding Chexys Gotta Spook, she earned a 72 to finish reserve in all three levels!
McCutcheon hasn’t been riding Disco Ball for long, having accepted the reins from her mother-in-law, Mandy McCutcheon, just 1.5 months ago. “I just wanted to have another smooth, clean run, and that is what she gave me,” McCutcheon said. She was pretty easy everywhere. Bred and owned by Tom and Mandy McCutcheon, Disco Ball is a 5-year-old mare by Smart And Shiney out of Party Nite.
She thanked Tom and Mandy McCutcheon for the opportunity to show the mare, her husband, Cade, for his coaching, and for taking care of their son, Carter, while she rides, and the rest of the team at Tom McCutcheon Reining Horses. “They just do a great job for us and work really hard,” she said.
Her reserve champion, Chexys Gotta Spook, is a 4-year-old gelding by Spooks Gotta Whiz out of Chexy Gun. Jennifer Anderson bred him, and McCutcheon and Cade own him.
Kristi Wiggins – Walla Be A Balla
Kristi Wiggins also enjoyed another successful slate of Novice Horse Non Pro classes on Walla Be A Balla. The dynamic duo earned a 72.5 to top the Level 1 [2] and secure its high point buckle.
Wiggins just purchased the 5-year-old gelding after this year’s NRBC. The first slate of Novice Horse Non Pro classes was her first time showing him, and they won the level 1 there, too!
“Yesterday was just kind of to see what was going to happen, and today was to try to fix little things that I could have improved upon,” Wiggins explained. “I definitely improved in some areas, and in other areas, I let my showing get the best of me.”
Sired by Walla Walla Whiz, Walla Be A Balla is out of Smokin Lady Gunner. Wiggins plans to show him next at the Winter Slide.
She thanked her trainer, Glen Estival, for the amount of work he has put into her and her horse. She also thanked her parents and everyone else who supported her.
