Day 3 of the Southwest Reining Horse Association Futurity and Horse Show dawned with the first slate of the Open ancillary classes in the Hardy Murphy Coliseum in Ardmore, Oklahoma, and interestingly, one horse sired all four class winners: Spooks Gotta Whiz!
Clemerson Gomes Barbalho guided Outfire LLC’s Gotta Glowy Crome to a 74.5 to claim the Open [1] Championship. The four-year-old mare is by Spooks Gotta Whiz out of Black Custom Chex and was bred by Mark Weissman. Barbalho was unavailable to comment on his win.
Taking reserve with a 72.5 was Trevor Dare riding A Vintage Design for Jason Reeder. A Vintage Design is by A Vintage Smoke out of Designed To Shoot. The four-year-old stallion was bred by Gray-Leigh Wilson.
Joe Schmidt Rides All White All White to Intermediate Open [1] Championship
For owner/breeder Monica Hicks Mathison, Joe Schmidt rode All White All White to the Intermediate Open [1] Championship. The three-year-old stallion that carried Schmidt to a 73.5 is by Spooks Gotta Whiz out of Mathison’s good mare, Girlz On Fire.
“He’s been a fun horse to train,” Schmidt said. “Really cool-minded. He’s got a lot of talent.”
Schmidt showed him in the Emerging Horse Futurity at the 100X Reining Classic, but a few bobbles kept them out of the winner’s circle.
All White All White was trained by Cade McCutcheon and entered Joe’s program in June.
The stallion worked well for Schmidt in pattern 6 and stayed hooked throughout the entire pattern, but whether or not he will be shown in Oklahoma City next month is yet to be determined.
He thanked Gunny and Monica Mathison, as well as the McCutcheon Reining Horses team.
Sumer Opinker rode Miss Emily Jewel to a 73 and tied for reserve in the Intermediate Open [1]. Owned and bred by Alicia Foley, Miss Emily Jewel is by Lil Joe Cash out of Whiz Jewels.
Tommaso Betramini Guides Birkin to Limited Open [1] Title; Reserve in Intermediate Open [1]
Sharing the tie for reserve in the Intermediate and winning the Limited Open [1] was Thommaso Beltramini mounted on Birkin. Brianna Anthony bred and owns the three-year-old mare by Spooks Gotta Whiz out of Boujee.
Beltramini was schooling Birkin for Anthony to show at the upcoming NRHA Futurity. Of the mare, he said, “She’s pretty sweet and very, very talented. She is a very nice mare.”
According to Beltramini, Birkin showed like she always does. He appreciates the consistency of the mare’s performance, but says her mind is the most special thing about the mare.
He thanked his employer, Wade McDonald, his team at McDonald Performance Horses, and the owner for allowing him to show the horse.
Gloria Spiaggi piloted Hellofagoodtime to a 72.5 to win reserve in the Limited Open [1] for owner James Pirtle, Jr. Carl Lambert bred the seven-year-old mare by Inferno Sixty Six out of Good Time Whiz Girl.
Rookie Professional [1] Championship Claimed by Leonardo Rosicarelli & Smart Diamond Whiz
The Rookie Professional [1] Championship was awarded to Leonardo Rosicarelli when he guided Smart Diamond Whiz to a 72.5 for owner Pannell Enterprises, LLC. Mark Smith bred the six-year-old gelding by Spooks Gotta Whiz out of Princess In Pearls.
Rosicarelli has only been riding “Gator” for two months and made their first appearance in Graham, Texas, at the Stampede Show Futurity and Sniper Smoking Gun Derby in early October.
“He’s a really nice horse,” Rosicarelli said. “I showed him a little aggressively because I wanted to if he was good or not with the pressure. He did a good job today. He stayed with me all the time. He did a good job.”
Rosicarelli was most pleased with the horse’s turns, circles, and slowdowns. He thanked his team at Jared Leclair Reining Horses and Terry Pannell for allowing him to show Gator.
