The 2025 SWRHA Futurity – Something for Everyone

Posted on September 10, 2025 by Stevie White

Long ranked as an NRHA Leading event, it combines high payouts with affordability for all rider levels.

The Southwest Reining Horse Association Futurity & Show will return to the historic Hardy Murphy Coliseum in Ardmore, Oklahoma, October 17–25, 2025. As one of the largest affiliates of the National Reining Horse Association, the SWRHA continues a legacy spanning more than four decades, combining tradition, competition, and big money.

The event once again opens with its marquee aged events: the Rancho Los Palominos Non Pro Futurity and the Billingsley Ford Open Futurity, both held on the first weekend.

“When we made the switch to hosting the major futurity classes during the opening weekend last year, we weren’t sure how it would be received,” said SWRHA Futurity Show Manager Cheryl Cody. “The feedback and turnout were tremendous, so we’re excited to continue that format. It allows exhibitors more time to prepare their horses for the next big stop on the calendar – the NRHA Futurity – while also keeping the momentum of the show strong from the start.”

With more than $207,000 added to the Futurity, the SWRHA remains a cornerstone of the reining schedule and the place to be just before the Oklahoma City event. As one of the oldest NRHA affiliates and host of one of the longest continually running futurities in the association, the SWRHA offers both prestige and opportunity for competitors.

The reverse schedule provides riders with an extra week to get their futurity horses ready for the next stage, while still offering a full double slate of ancillary classes for those needing more time in the show pen. Riders of all levels – from beginners to seasoned professionals – can find a welcoming, economical place to show at Ardmore.

Highlights of the 2025 SWRHA Futurity & Show include:

  • Ride and Slide classes for beginner reiners.
  • High point buckles for two full slates of ancillary classes.
  • The Run For A Million qualifiers, with winners advancing to the semi-finals at the 6666 NRHA Derby presented by Markel.
  • Markel Night of Fun on Friday, October 24, featuring the Rein in Cancer Dog Races, Leadline and Walk-Trot classes, and the always-popular Frankenstyle Costume Freestyle. The evening also spotlights the Outta Dough Masters Non Pro (60+) and the Petroll Reining Horses Platinum Non Pro (70+) divisions.

From top-level futurity action to classes designed for riders just getting started, the SWRHA Futurity & Show continues its tradition of both excellence and entertainment.

“As much as this show is about big runs and big payouts, it’s also about the atmosphere we’ve built here in Ardmore,” added Cody. “People know they’ll see many of the best riders in the world in tough competition, but they’ll also experience fun, camaraderie, and a place where everyone – from first-timers to veteran competitors – can feel welcome.”
