Jenna Marie Hornick says she does her best when she doesn’t think too much about her run ahead. It seems her plan worked, as she and Who Dat Hot Chic tied for the win of the Unrestricted Youth [2], the Youth 14-18 [2], and the Youth 14-18 high point.
“I can’t do mental preparation; I do horrible when I think through it. Literally my advice is ‘Don’t think about it, just go.’ Just do it one step at a time. Show smart and plan ahead,” she explained.
Hornick was showing Who Dat Hot Chic, a 12-year-old mare by Wimpys Little Step out of Smart Chic Aloha. “She’s a very sensitive, but it wasn’t very hard to [get with her],” she said. “She was with me the whole way and she taught me a lot.”
Hornick, of Davidson, North Caroline, added, “I want to thank the who Deary crew – Casey Deary, Nicole Deary, Katie Davis, my mom and day. It’s a lot of people.”
Hornick’s winning didn’t end with the youth classes, either. She brought home the Rookie Level 1 [2] Championship riding Who Dat Hot Chic once more.
“She had plenty of time to rest and eat after her first run. And she was much happier than before,” Hornick said.
