Late Night Doll, by Late Nite Stopper, provided Fernando Salgado another special connection to brother Eduardo with two wins in the SWRHA Futurity Novice Horse Slate 1 on Wednesday.
“She’s a pretty nice mare that was trained by my brother Eduardo,” Salgado said. “We all know about [his passing], but he had sent her to me to keep riding her till the end of the year.”
Owned by Marc and Kathy Gordon, the mare out of Walla Walla Doll marked a 74 and earned $2,464.
“I’d showed her once before, and we were not sure what the plan was on her for next year. That’s why I brought her here, to go through a pattern and see which direction we go. I just got her ready and it was a good surprise,” Salgado said.
According to Salgado, this is the first horse he’s ridden by Late Night Stopper, but he likes what he’s seen so far.
“I think we’re going to see a lot more from him and that mare is going to keep doing good next year. I’m very excited,” Salgado said. “We’re going to get her ready to go derby next year.”
Salgado thanked this team for their hard work and Marc Gordon for trusting him with Late Night Doll.
