Paul Lentschke took an extended break from horses, but recently has been making his way back with the help of old friend Nathan Piper.
“My old college roommate Nathan Piper – we grew up together – told me he had a special horse. It took a little bit to get him finished out, but now we’re [aimed at] the derbies for next year,” Lentschke said.
That special horse Is Cameos Special Gun, a six-year-old stallion sired by Gunners Special Nite and out of BR Sheza Cameo Jac, who marked a 74.5 in the Novice Horse Non Pro [1], earning $585.
“Yesterday was a great run. He was really good and tuned-in. It’s the first time I’d shown and been prepared in about 15 years, so it felt good to mark a good score on him. I’ve got a lot of rust to knock off,” Lentschke said.
According to Lentschke, he always loved horses but hadn’t been able to get back into the sport for several years. With personal circumstances and the cost associated with horses, Lentschke had to wait for the “one horse.”
“I’d like to thank Nathan and his team for all they do getting us prepared, and my wife. She couldn’t be here, but she was excited [for me],” Lentschke said.
