There will be plenty of fun to be had at the Southwest Reining Horse Association Futurity and Horse Show which features the Billingsley Ford Open and Custom Made Dunnit Non Pro Futurities. The event is slated for October 19-24 at the historic Hardy Murphy Coliseum in Ardmore, Oklahoma.
Although the competition is intense, one of the week’s events is completely about fun, the Nutrena Back Gate Pizza Party which will be held October 22 after the Custom Made Dunnit Non Pro Futurity.
“Nutrena Feeds is excited to be a sponsor of the SWRHA Futurity again this year,” said Kirk Carter, Senior Equine Specialist. “As we all navigate through the past two challenging years, we are excited to see our equine athletes and their owners out competing and doing what they love. Their support allows us to continue to show up and support reining events.”
Thanks to Nutrena, exhibitors, families, and friends can meet at the back gate of the Coliseum following the Non Pro Futurity to enjoy pizza and meet with old and new friends.
The horses won’t be the only ones shining in Ardmore on Friday night. Following the Pizza Party, the dogs of the SWRHA will strut their stuff in the Coliseum during the annual Dog Races to benefit Rein in Cancer.
“The SWRHA family recently lost one of its most loved members to cancer. Although the races are always fun and entertaining, this year, it hits closer to home as everyone remembers our friend, and longtime SWRHA member, Tim Lynch,” said Cheryl Cody, President of Rein in Cancer.
The dog races are a team effort, with one person holding the dog at the start and the other waiting at the finish line to call the dog. Once the announcer counts down, the race is on, and the first dog to the other side wins! There will be big dog and little dog divisions.
Following the Dog Races, the future of reining will be center stage for the Leadline and Walk/Trot Classes. These young riders will compete for the title of Champion and many will be wearing their Halloween costumes.
