Youth 13 & Under, Youth 14 – 18, Short Stirrup
The future of reining took center stage in Saturday morning’s youth classes, when the Youth 13 and Under, Youth 14-18 and Short Stirrup contestants battled it out for the top spots in each class.

In the Youth 13 & Under, sponsored by Luke Gagnon and Belar Ranch, Madison Gustin topped the class riding Guns R Spooky to a score of 72.5, which was a personal best for the youth.

Guns R Spooky is by Smart Spook out of Berry Yer Guns and Gustin says he showed to the best of his ability in Saturday’s youth class.

“I feel amazing,” Gustin said. “He was so good today, and he was so easy to show. It was our best score ever. I’m so happy with him!”

In the Youth 13 and Under Raeanna Thayn took first and second place aboard Nics Wimpy and Codes Electric Heir, respectively. With Nics Wimpy (Wimpys Little Step x Nics Whiz) Thayn scored a 72. With Codes Electric Heir (Electric Code x Dunits Reining Heir) Thayn scored a 71.5.

In the Youth 14 – 18, sponsored by Metcalf Quarter Horses, McKinnon Larcombe topped the class with a score of 72 riding My Nu Mercedes Rox, worth $52.

My Nu Mercedes Rox a 4-year-old by Cromed Out Mercedes out of Roxanna Chex and has had success with Larcombe’s mom prior to finding success with the 15-year-old.

“My parents bred him. My mom’s pretty much trained him, she showed him at the Futurity last year and made the Level 1 finals on him. My mom showed him at the NRBC this year and I took him over this year – I kind of stole him,” she said with a laugh. “This is really only my fifth time to show him, so I’m still getting to know him, but every time we get in the show pen he gets better and better.”

Second place in the Youth 14-18 went to Sean Allen riding Deltas Colonel Rey Ct (Colonel Rey Lena x Nu Delta) with a score of 71. Third went to Sidney Perdue riding Yes Ima Gunner (Colonels Smoking Gun x Double Sweet BH) with a score of 70.

The Short Stirrup class, sponsored by Gabriel Diano, was full of exciting competition from the younger guns of reining. Topping the class was Hattie Nance riding Straight Shootin Gun to a score of 70.5.

“I borrowed him from the best trainer in the world, Barbara Williams,” Nance said. “This is my third time to be riding him and I love him. I was a little nervous at the first [of my run], but I had a lot of fun.”

Second place in the 10 and Under Short Stirrup was Faith Horner riding Bullet Proof Benz with a score of 70. Chase McInteer was third riding Reiny Day Wrangler to a score of 69.5.
