3-Way Tie for the John Deere Futurity Open Lead - Larson, Leclair and Avila

Wednesday, October 23 began at the Billingsley Ford Southwest Reining Horse Association Futurity and Show with the first section of the prelims of the John Deere Open Futurity.

When 64 horses had shown, there was a three-way tie for the top score - at 223. Tied for first in the Level 4 Open were Jordan Larson on Double Loaded Gun (Gunner X Anniegityergun) owned by Freddie Brasfield, Bobby Avila Jr. on Teresa Wynn's Im Gunna Shine (Gunner X Shiner Light), and Jared Leclair on This Cats Stressin (WR This Cats Smart X Stressin) owned by Terry Ranch.

Avila and Leclair were tied for the Level 3 top slot and Jared also topped the Level 2, with Mathieu Buton sitting second with a 219.5 on Whiz Chica Dee, a daughter of Topsail Whiz out of Chic A Dee Hickory owned by Bob Loomis.

Currently leading the Level 1 Open is Eduardo Christians on his Sugar Pop Step Ahead (Wimpys Little Step X Sugar Pop Gun) with a score of 219. Mirjam Stillo holds second in the level 1 with a 216 on Little Joe Vintage (A Sparkling Vintage X Snappy N Smart Chic) owned by Harper Conner.

The 20-entry Novice Horse Non Pro class followed the Futurity section and Mandy McCutcheon Gunner Nic to the Novice Horse Non Pro win, scoring a 72 on the daughter of Gunner out of Tinker Nic by Reminic. The mare is a full sister to $300K plus winner Tinker with Guns, and, according to Mandy, "Either Cade or I will show her in Oklahoma City. We are making those plans, now."

For the win, McCutcheon received a Champion SWRHA Buckle and Morrison Trophy, along with a check for $606.
There was a tie for the Reserve Championship between Flis Sassella on Slide To The Bucks and Catherine Wright on Spookaroanie. Each scored 71.5.

The SWRHA Futurity and Show presented by Billingsley Ford, is held each year at the Hardy Murphy Coliseum in Ardmore, Oklahoma. It is one of the reining industry's most important fall events and a consistent prelude to the NRHA Futurity which follows a short month later.
Action continues at Ardmore with the second section of the John Deere Open Futurity beginning at 8 am on Thursday, October 24. At 6 pm, the Gunners Special Nite Draw Party sponsored by Turnabout Farms and Red Dirt BrewHouse takes center stage. The draw is always popular event and a highlight at this year's party will be the live auction of an embryo transfer sponsored by KR Reproductive Services of Whitesboro, Texas and Southern Equine.
